WORK REPORT OF COTEE REGARDING CONVENTION AGAINST ELECTRICITY AMENDMENT BILL 2014 AT CHENNAI ON 14TH OF JULY 2015
As per the decision taken by the NCCOEEE meeting on 25.06.2015 at Delhi, we met the Trade Union leaders in Tamil Nadu for conducting the convention. As per the request of Trade Union leaders the meeting was held on 06.07.2015 at TNEWF (AIFEE) office. The leaders of COTEE Comrades K. Vijayan,S.S. Subramanian,K. Antony, S. Rajendran, K.Ravichandran, the leaders of Federation Comrades V.Ramachandran, Thangavelu, LPF Leader S.Rathnasabapathy, Diploma Sangam Leader Er.Ashok Kumar and INTUC leader Xavier, Engineers Association Leader Appar Samy, Power Engineers Organisation leaders Com Arivazhagan and Arulselvan, Andhra Pradesh UEEU leader Com.Suri Babu and Telungana UEEU leader Com. Kiran also attended the meeting. In this meeting COTEE prepared and issued the leaders the copy of ▷ Wall Poster (English & Tamil) ▷ Memorandum – to be submitted to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, State Minister for Electricity and Chairman of TNEB Ltd. ▷ Appeal to the workers and Engineers to participate in the seminar and strike whenever the Electricity Amendment Bill 2014 is introduced in the Parliament. After the discussions, the following decisions were taken and implemented.
(i) Printed 300 posters in English and 1000 in Tamil and the posters were circulated to neighbouring States such as Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telungana and Pondicherry.
(ii) The Memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and State Minister for Electricity by the Joint Council.
(iii) A copy of Memorandum and appeal to the workers regarding their participation in convention and strike with signature of the leaders were also circulated among the workers and the Engineers of TNEB.
(iv) Circle level (District) Joint Council has been formed to implement the above decisions taken by the State Level Joint Council. Further, a Press Meet was conducted on 10.07.2015 by NCCOEEE of Southern Region. Com. Subramanian, Treasurer EEFI addressed the reporters the effects that will incur if the Electricity Amendment Bill 2014 is implemented and about the convention held.
The very next day, most of the regional daily papers and T.V.Channels published/telecasted the Press Meet.
As decided by the Joint Council, the convention against Electricity Amendment Bill 2014 was conducted at Raja Annamalai Mandram, Chennai on 14.07.2015 on which the programme chat and draft resolution in English and Tamil was circulated to the leaders and participants.
Com. Thangavelu (Federation) welcomed the gathering and following comrades were selected as the Presidium for conducting the convention.

The draft resolution in English was proposed in the convention by the Er.Ashok Kumar, Engineer
Sangam and Tamil by Thiru S.Rathna Sabapathy and the following leaders seconded the draft
resolution and were requested to adopt them.

The leaders addressed the participants of the convention on the effects that will incur if the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2014 is implemented.
They also emphasised that the Bill seeks to amend the Electricity Act 2003 by segregating the distribution Network from the Electricity supply business. It also seeks to introduce multiple supply licensees in the Electricity market.
The resolution was passed unanimously after concluding speech of com. S.S. Subramaniyan on behalf of presidium. Com.K.Vijayan, COTEE delivered vote of thanks to the participants.
In this convention, 72 comrades from Kerala, 80 from Andhra, 28 from Telungana, 30 from Pondicherry and 1300 from Tamil Nadu participated. It was one of the highly successful convention held in Southern Region.
All the leaders and participants raised their voice of slogans for workers and Engineers unity Against the Electricity Amendment Bill 2014.
