The militant and progressive Trade Union International of Energy (TUI) under the banner of gallant and class-oriented World Federation of Trade Union, strongly condemn the anti working class action by the Brazilian Government of selling off one of Brazil’s most promising oil reserves to the hands of the capitalists.

The proven reserves of the field in question are approximately 15 billion barrels, meaning a two-fold increase of existing today. With the confirmation of these numbers, Brazil could become the third largest producer of oil in the world

It is without any doubt that this disreputable form of privatization is only exploit the people’s reserves for the profiting of the most profitable oil corporations in the world and it is forever going to be a huge burden to the working class and the poor in general. We reaffirm our position as the TUI Energy of “No to privatization of natural resources” and we will continue to support our members and all workers in particular who have been struggling against such developments.

In supporting the workers in the energy sector in Brazil, the TUI Energy stands firm that oil should remain under public control and be operated according to national needs and that the result of this exploration should be directed to the country’s pro-people development and improve the quality of life of the population, especially the poor.

We stand in solidarity with the struggle of our affiliates, our friends, the strikers in the oil platforms and the Brazilian working class and condemn the state repression against the demonstrators protesting the auctioning of the drilling rights and the privatizations of the people’s wealth.
